On a basic level an effective project manager must be able to break down deliverables into distinct tasks, create a schedule to place these tasks in proper sequence, establish task completion dates, assign these tasks to people and then monitor their progress to identify adjustments that need to be made. In many situations complexity is increased due to the fact that multiple projects are being managed at once and resources are shared between project managers.

KMx offers a suite of powerful online tools designed to accomplish each of these objectives. The core of KMx contains a powerful task engine. Tasks are easily created with options to input start and end dates, time allocation, dependencies and priorities. Quick task creation only requires a task name and a contact responsible for it's completion. All task information is fully editable after creation, with the exception of who originally created the task and when it was created.

Tasks are arranged into projects using either parent/child relationships or tags, or a combination of both. Tags facilitate easy grouping and sorting of tasks by project or across multiple projects while parent/child relationships organize tasks into an outline format to establish sequence and dependencies.

KMx believes the key to a fully integrated task system is to keep the barrier of entry as low as possible so information can be captured in real time. Rather than searching for the correct project to post a task to anyone can create a task with just a name and a contact and then come back later and easily arrange the task into the correct task parent/child 'tree' or add the tags that associate the task with a project. Multiple tags can be added to easily cross reference projects or other information.

Task lists are easily managed with powerful filtering options. Tasks can be sorted to include or exclude a certain tag or group of tags. Additional options allow filtering by start or end date, by contact, by status, and by keyword.

The KMx Watcher and Dashboard functions provide key team communication. A task is only assigned to one person, but anyone can be attached as a Watcher to a task. When assigned a watcher the task appears under 'My Watch Activity' on the dashboard. In addition, if a watched task has a due date it will show up on the Watchers dashboard under due dates. Any time there is activity on a watched task it floats to the top of any Watcher's dashboard with a star indicating their has been activity. These features or very useful to delegate and monitor tasks and facilitate project team collaboration.
